A Tropic Marin Tank (9): Water Testing

In order to reach and maintain the optimal water parameters, we need to do water tests. Reef keeping is about keeping water suited for corals, then the corals and fish will thrive in it. This aquarium will be tested weekly with the Tropic Marin Professional Lab.

This handy and very neat suitcase, is complete with the test kits needed to reach our optimal water parameters. I have been using mine for over a year, and the wear and tear is minimal, only some dust has collected on it. Refill packs of the test kits are available for a sustainable and cheaper refill option.

When doing your water tests, make sure you have great lighting to really see the color changes. And don't forget to protect your furniture from potential spills. I have a dedicated work table for aquarium stuff. I would advice every hobbyist to do this too.

When I do my tests, I always make sure to keep towels ready and a cup of my favourite brew. In this case it is coffee in my Tropic Marin cup. A notepad for logging the results and a stopwatch are great to keep the results consistent and stable.

With weekly testing and corrections in your dosing schedule you will maintain a body of water, which can sustain ocean life. When you can do that, you can grow colorful corals and keep them thriving for years.

Next week we will discuss adding new coral to a tank. -Samuel Christensen
